  Maoist Army

In Nepal there are two armed force in present, one is Nepali Army run by Nepal government and other is People’s Liberation Army run by Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). Both of the armed force are continuing there regular training and others activities. Now P.L.A. Maoist and N.A. are in ceasefire in Nepal. Today the Maoist rebels are no more defined as terrorist by Nepal government. But one of the commanders expresses that; if the situation comes we can go back "people's war" as a rebel. Nepal's Maoist leader Prachanda vowed 30 June 2006 in an interview with a international news agency the rebels would not return to war but warned they could call protestors back onto the streets if talks with the government broke down. The two sides have twice previously been engaged in peace negotiations -- in 2001 and 2003 -- in a bid to end the Maoist insurgency launched in 1996 and aimed at installing a communist republic in Nepal. Nepal's Maoists are unhappy with the government's invitation to the United Nations to monitor weapons held by the guerrillas and the army ahead of elections, a rebel leader said on Thursday. The third division of People’s Liberation Army now stay and running their regular training at Kami Danda village in Kavrepalanchowk district, about 120 km. from Kathamandu. July 11, 2006
